Oops, Five Years Too Soon

Little did I ever think Watchdog would be part of the ‘fake news’ but it happened this last weekend when Watchdog posted “Who Will Be Naperville’s Next Mayor”. It’s still a valid question, but its five years too soon.

Naperville mayor Steve Chirico will complete his second term in 2023, however the mayoral term limit is three terms, not two as stated in the posting. By all accounts, Mayor Chirico will run again, and why not, he’s on a roll, as is Naperville under his leadership.

The good news for me is that I can re-publish the same post, with a few edits, five years from now, thereby saving me the time to write a new posting. Five years from now is a long time, and a lot can happen between now and then. The Cubs can be at the beginning of their third rebuilding project, and ‘Da Bears’ may have won one or more Super Bowls during that time…well, maybe not that one.

Thanks to Mike Marek for catching the error:

“Interesting. I thought Mayor Chirico was eligible for another term. Title 1, Chapter 5, Section 1-5-1 of the Naperville Municipal Code reads ‘Effective in 2011…no person shall serve in the office of Mayor in excess of three (3) consecutive full terms.’ “

Mike, you thought correctly.
