It may go all the way back to Judy Garland’s ruby red slippers before you find a pair of shoes that has drawn more curiosity and speculation than have bright pink shoes Councilman Holzhauer has been sporting around town, including to council meetings.
It’s an obnoxiously informal look to wear bright pink tennis shoes to the dais. Traditionally councilmen have dressed formally to council meetings… it’s a sign of respect to the community who elected the councilmen (not to mention the community who is paying their salaries).
Holzhauer yet again is bucking tradition and respect for the dais. He isn’t dressed to show our community respect for giving him the opportunity to serve on the dais.
Holzhauer is dressed like he’s going to go twirl the baton at the next Wrigleyville gay parade.
To be clear, the WD could not careless if Ian is homosexual. The WD does care that Ian seems a whole lot more interested in political stunts and games than he does about actually serving the people in a serious manner.
The shoes are an obnoxious attention grab. They get people talking about him. Maybe people forget he tried to torpedo Block 59 and that he shoved his tax bill onto residents for years. Maybe people will forget or that he repeatedly throws colleagues under the bus and that he’s typically an unprepared ghost on the dais. Clearly Holzhauer is only serving out his time until a better office comes along.
Naperville deserves better.
Ian’s bright pink shoes are symbolic of his entire term on council. It’s desperately attention seeking, self absorbed, and a distraction from a record that reflects nothing but stunts and political games.
In April the WD suggests voters vote no to Ian and his pink shoes. Naperville is one of the best cities in America. It should be led be serious officials…not a dim pair of pink shoes.
